Pinhoti Trail Maintenance @Dugger Mtn--Day 2
Dugger Mtn Wilderness

Trail Leader: Jonathan Kelly
Back-to-back trail-maintenance days in the Dugger Mountain Wilderness? You know what that means—an opportunity to backpack if you wish!
Join us for another rewarding day of trail stewardship in Dugger Mountain. Backpacking allows our crew to reach remote sections of the Pinhoti Trail that are difficult to access during a single-day outing. Carrying everything we need into the Wilderness can be challenging, but it gives us the opportunity to complete essential work in places that might otherwise be overlooked.
Come embrace the challenge, experience the satisfaction of caring for a remote Wilderness trail, and help make a lasting difference for everyone who travels the Pinhoti.
Join us for a second day of trail maintenance as we continue brushing and clearing the Pinhoti Trail. With a few dedicated volunteers and some sharp tools, we can get it back in great shape. We hope to make significant progress over two consecutive workdays, so join us for one—or both!
For those attending both days, the surrounding area offers several camping options, from free or inexpensive campsites to accommodations locally.
No previous trail maintenance experience is required. Volunteers of all skill levels are welcome.
Wild Alabama will provide:
• Necessary trail maintenance tools
• Hard hats (required while working under forest canopy)
• Work gloves
• Safety glasses
Participants should:
• Wear long pants and sturdy closed-toe footwear
• Consider wearing durable work pants such as Carhartt, Dickies, or similar heavy-duty outdoor clothing
• Bring at least two liters of water (more is encouraged during hot weather)
• Pack a lunch and snacks for the day
• Wear sunscreen and bring extra for reapplication
• Apply insect repellent or treat clothing prior to the event
This is a rewarding opportunity to help maintain a nationally recognized trail while protecting access to one of Alabama's most treasured Wilderness areas.
Important Overnight and Participation Information
Overnight camping is completely optional and is separate from Wild Alabama’s scheduled stewardship workdays. Wild Alabama will not provide camping gear, meals, or other overnight supplies. Participants who choose to camp are responsible for their own safety, equipment, food, and activities after each day’s scheduled work hours. Wild Alabama is not liable for injuries occurring outside those hours.
Volunteers who do not wish to camp may participate for one day only.
All registrants must contact the trip leader, Jonathan, by email before the trip to discuss their backpacking experience, participation plans, and any questions about the event.
The meeting location will be provided upon registration by email.
Our programs and outreach hikes are (mostly) free of charge yet we gladly accept donations to help support the consistent and continued stewardship programs year after year. You can use the express donation feature at the top of this page.
