Pinhoti Trail Maintenance @Dugger Mtn: Day 1

Dugger Mountain Wilderness

Nov 22

9am

Trail Leader: Jonathan Kelly

Looking for a way to hike with a purpose, build valuable experience for your résumé, and learn more about public lands and the remarkable plants and wildlife found there? Look no further!

Trail-maintenance days help keep public trails safe, accessible, and enjoyable for the hiking community. Along the way, volunteers gain practical stewardship skills, learn more about the forest, and build friendships with others who care about Alabama’s wild places.

Through our Volunteer Service Agreement with the U.S. Forest Service, Wild Alabama leads safe, organized workdays on official trails throughout the Talladega National Forest. That’s where you come in! Join us as we care for the Pinhoti Trail through the Dugger Mountain Wilderness and make a lasting difference for the trail and everyone who enjoys it.

Join Wild Alabama as we trim back growth by lopping branches, sawing fallen trees, and brushing the trail corridor to keep this beautiful section of the Pinhoti safe and accessible for everyone. No experience is necessary—we'll provide the tools, training, and guidance you need. Whether you're a seasoned volunteer or joining us for the first time, your efforts will make a lasting difference.

Participants should be prepared for a full day on the trail, including moderate to strenuous hiking over several miles. Be sure to bring plenty of water, lunch, sturdy footwear, and clothing appropriate for working outdoors.

We couldn't maintain these trails without dedicated volunteers like you. Come spend a rewarding day in the woods, enjoy the beauty of Dugger Mountain, and help protect one of Alabama's premier hiking destinations!

Wild Alabama will provide:

• Necessary trail maintenance tools

• Hard hats (required while working under forest canopy)

• Work gloves

• Safety glasses

Participants should:

• Wear long pants and sturdy closed-toe footwear

• Consider wearing durable work pants such as Carhartt, Dickies, or similar heavy-duty outdoor clothing

• Bring at least two liters of water (more is encouraged during hot weather)

• Pack a lunch and snacks for the day

• Wear sunscreen and bring extra for reapplication

• Apply insect repellent or treat clothing prior to the event

This is a rewarding opportunity to help maintain a nationally recognized trail while protecting access to one of Alabama's most treasured Wilderness areas.
